TECHNICAL CHALLENGE:

DEADLOCK

A self-initiated experiment made when Valve's Deadlock was first released.

The piece brings together seven of the most prominent components to the game from the lane troopers (candle heads) up to the Patron, and blends them into a single motion loop. It gives an abstract overview of the game and everything there is to do in it.

The style draws on the artwork Valve was releasing in the game's early days, and the goal was to present motion that could feel at home alongside their own work.

It captures the game as it was at launch. Working on something brand new is always exciting and fresh: a new world with no established motion language yet, and room to imagine what that language could be.
